Foundation La Vecina helps underprivileged children in the Colombian city of Cartagena, providing them with education and support, enabling them for a better future.

Foundation La Vecina was founded in 2005 by Nathalie Rietman, with the primary objective to provide a positive impact on the living conditions of the disadvantaged children in the outskirts of Cartagena. The foundation provides the financial means to enable the realization of the projects involved.

The first goal was to start up a primary school, with a maximum of 15 children per classroom. The school started in March 2007 and consist now, anno 2014, of a full program for kids aged 4- 11 years old. Next school year the final year of primary school will be added on to the program! The population of the school has grown up to 97 children!

The aid that La Vecina has been providing for the last years has been extended with psychosocial and medical support as well as support for the parents involved. Another important part of the program is to provide breakfast and a warm meal every school day.
